FAQ – Actiphy Rapid Deploy
Q1:What is Actiphy Rapid Deploy ?
Actiphy Rapid Deploy is designed for VARs, OEMs, and system integrators to create a source image of preconfigured computer systems using the predecessor product, ActiveImage Deploy USB, and to deploy the source image to client PCs.
Actiphy Rapid Deploy also provides a distribution server that enables multicasting of a source image via a network.
This creates an environment ready for constant use to deploy a source image to many PCs periodically.
Actiphy Rapid Deploy frees you from time-consuming deployment work.
Q2:What are the differences between Actiphy Rapid Deploy and Actiphy Rapid Deploy Plus ?
You can perform cloning using both products with a license.
However Actiphy Rapid Deploy Plus allows you to create and use “USB recovery memory” that can be used to restore the system back to a factory state upon failure.
Q3:What are the differences between Actiphy Rapid Deploy and ActiveImage Deploy USB ?
Actiphy Rapid Deploy is composed of Deploy Media Creator (an enhanced version of the predecessor product ActiveImage Deploy USB) and the newly developed ImageCast Server.
Actiphy Rapid Deploy provides the features of ActiveImage Deploy USB and ImageCast Server, enabling multicasting of a source image via a network.
Neither IP address settings nor a DHCP server is required to provide network communication environment. You only need wired network over the same LAN to start communication with ImageCast Server.
Q4:Does Actiphy Rapid Deploy include USB memory ?
No, USB memory is not included in the product.
Please purchase the required number of USB devices with enough space for saving a source image to deploy.
Q5:Please tell us how to calculate the required capacity of the USB memory.
Two partitions are created in one USB memory.
1.5GB is allocated to one partition for the boot environment.
The remaining space is allocated to the other partition for image storage.
The image file is compressed to approximately 70% of its the original file size and saved on the partition.
If using Windows 10/11, the image size will be 8GB at minimum, so a USB memory with 16GB or more space is required. We recommend purchasing a USB memory with a minimum of 32GB.
Q6:Is an internet connection required to use the product ?
The internet is used for license activation, so internet access is required when creating and updating Deployment USB media. However, when deploying a source image from USB media, internet access is not required.
Q7:Is it possible to save multiple source images in one USB media ?
It isn’t possible to have more than one image.
For example, if deploying four patterns of computer systems to 100 PCs, you would need to create four source image files: one for each computer system. You would also need to create USB media for each image to deploy to the specified number of target PCs.
Q8:Can I use the same USB media for deployment and restore ?
Deploy and Restore media differ and need to be created separately for their respective uses.
Q9:Please let us know the number of licenses required for deploying a source image.
One license of Actiphy Rapid Deploy or Actiphy Rapid Deploy Plus is required to deploy a source image to a target computer.
For example, if deploying to 80 computers, you need to purchase 80 licenses.
No license is required to install Actiphy Rapid Deploy on a source computer for creating Deploy / Restore USB media or creating source images to deploy.
Q10:I want to try using Actiphy Rapid Deploy, but how ?
We offer evaluation versions of Actiphy Deploy for Desktop.
Q11:Is it possible to create a source image using the evaluation version of Actiphy Rapid Deploy for Desktop and embed the source image in the Deploy USB created with the licensed version of Actiphy Rapid Deploy ?
Yes, it’s possible.
- Please copy the source image file (.aiv) from the USB media to the desktop.
- When creating USB media using the licensed version of Actiphy Rapid Deploy, please select [Embed existing “Image to Deploy” in this USB media] option and choose the source image file that was copied on the desktop.
